I was able to save 60% on our grocery budget just by doing weekly and then monthly meal planning! I’m being totally serious – it really makes a difference.
Not only does meal planning save money but, it also decreases stress. No longer are you scrambling in the evening trying to figure out what is for dinner – you have a plan!
Once your meal planning is completed, you can then use it as you make a grocery list. The guesswork is taken out of it and you are empowered because you have a written plan to follow.
Once you start weekly meal planning and are comfortable with it, you may want to try monthly meal planning. I was able to save even more when I began monthly meal planning and shopping. Fewer trips to the store means I make fewer impulsive purchases and use less gas to get there!
Monthly meal planning, is not as difficult as it sounds.
Here is how I do :
1. Make a list of meals that your family likes.
2. Using a monthly calendar, write the meals in.
3. Use it to fit your needs and make it as detailed as you want. I normally write only the main meal for each day and leave one day per week blank for leftovers.
4. Once you have a couple of months planned, it is easy to rotate them and still have plenty of variety in your family’s meals.
